Matriskin - Vitamin C serum - Review

I am becoming a little bit of a skin care addict. Show me anything that claims to smooth and beautify my skin and I am there!

This little beauty came in my December Love Me Beauty box and when I read all about it I couldn't have been more excited!

The packaging makes it look like a scientific item pulled from a laboratory so instantly I was already intrigued.

The serum claims to repair & restructure and when you apply it to your skin it can reduce age spots and leave you with a smoother over all appearance.

The thing that interested me most about this serum is it's anti oxidant properties that are supposed to help reduce acne. I don't ever have severe spots, but recently after a Clinique 3 step programme gone wrong, it left my chin with spots and marks all over.

I've been using this serum for about a week now and although I know it takes 4 weeks for a new skincare routine to fully take effect I think I can really see a difference!

I feel like my skin is smoother, the spots are calming down and I look like I have a nice glow.

The down side?! It's £53.35 for 30ml which is a little steep for every day skin care, but if it actually works, then I think I could be persuaded to part that amount of money!

If you want to try it out for yourself you can get your hands on it at birchbox!

Until next time

10 things I've learnt from blogging so far:

So I started my blog in summer, but only got actively involved in the blogging world in late October. I've learnt so much since I started and I know I still have so much to learn. I wanted to write a short post on all the things I've learnt since I've become fully engrossed in the blogging community:

1 - Write about what you are passionate about. It will come out in your writing and make your posts more appealing.

2 - You won't be everyone's cup of tea. Don't let this get you down. For every person that isn't a fan, there will be 5 more who are rooting for you.

3 - Time goes fast when you're blogging! So if you can try to plan, or blog on the move if you can!

4 - Do what works best for you. At first you'll look to others for inspiration, but then you'll get into a flow and it will be simple!

5 - Be yourself and always be honest. Don't give products a rave review just because you think you should. Your readers will prefer honesty and integrity!

6 - Take part in lots of chats, there are some really friendly people out there just like you!!

7 - There will always be someone more popular, with more followers, with better photos, with better tech, who's wittier, but remember your time will come! Everyone has to start somewhere.

8 -  Don't lose hope. One day you'll lose 4 followers the next day you'll gain 10. One day you'll get 7 views, the next you'll get 300. Nothing is certain in blogs, so just go with the flow!

9 - Use social media as a tool to promote and engage with people who read your blog, there's also a lot of chats on there so get involved!

10 - Enjoy yourself! Blogging is meant to entertain, It's not meant to be a chore!!! So sit back, relax and just have fun!!

What's the main thing you've learnt since you started blogging?

Until next time

ELF marble eyeshadow palette

In the sales I treated myself to ELF's 100 piece marble eyeshadow palette. I don't usually wear a lot of eyeshadow but it was half price so I figured I'd be adventurous and give a few looks a go. Here's my first five looks created with the palette, I can't wait to have another play and come up with lots more looks! With 100 colours I feel the world is my oyster!

Bronze beauty:

I love the orangey bronze colours that are in this palette, especially the metallic ones. This would make a really pretty day to evening look.

For this look I wanted to play around with the traditional smokey eye. I added a touch of silver to brighten the look and finished it off with the darkest black in the palette.

Green eyed monster

I love the green/ turquoise colors in this palette. I know they say you should use colours that are opposite to your eye colour to make them pop, but I still think this green eye draws loads of attention to my eye.

Ice queen

I would never ever normally wear blue eyeshadow. It's one of those colours that make me think of dodgy 80's makeup looks, but mixed with a touch of white and silver it gives an Icy almost space like touch. Mix with very minimal makeup and I think you're onto a winner.

Purple rain

Now this look is sure to make your blue/green eyes pop! I've used another touch of silver as it's so versatile to brighten any look. It also adds a really girly touch.

I think the brighter colours in the palette offer themselves up as great liners or looks for an evening. However if you're a lot more daring go for it and rock one of these looks during the day. I think the green one would look amazing on someone with bright red hair as the contrast would be crazy!

I'm still getting the hang of my eyeshadow brushes, and the palette and I can't wait to have a go at creating a few more daytime looks.

Until next time!

Get the K middy..

Today the duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton celebrated her 32nd birthday and so to join in the celebrations in true beauty blogger style I thought I'd rustle up a quick how to!!

I'm going to apologise in advance for the grainy photos. My light was fading fast. I think it may be time to invest in some good equiptment!

I wanted to do a tutorial on how to get the Kate Middleton look without the faff of rollers and lots of expensive tools, So it's an inspired look! Here we go:

1. A good blow dry starts best on clean hair. Wash your hair and then dry about 70% with a towel!

2. To get lots of volume, I always dry my hair upside down, being sure to still dry it along the hair shaft to keep it smooth and soft. (Yes I do look like cousin it here :p)

3. Before the hair is fully dry spritz with a light oil treatment that will leave hair glossy without weighing it down. My favourite at the moment is this organic spray on argon oil.

4. Continue to dry getting as much volume into the hair as possible. It should start to look a bit like this...

5. Comb your hair through to smooth, being careful not to flatten all the volume you have just created!

6. Take straighteners or a curling iron and only curl the ends of your hair up to where your ears are. Don't go any higher than this as her curls and waves always fall to her shoulders.

7. Instead of using a comb at this point run your fingers through your hair to separate some of the curls into lovely waves.

8. Next its time to do your makeup!! The duchess always has really glowy dewy skin. To build up my base I used the following:

9. At the moment my skin is really dry so I opt for a tinted moisturiser instead of a foundation to add to the glow.

I opt for my 75p!! Yes 75p!! Elf cosmetics tinted moisturiser and it leaves my skin positively glowing.

10. Apply a concealer to all the areas that need it. Around your eyes, the nose area and blend baby, blend!

11. Next its time to focus on your cheeks. Kate has killer cheek bones and so to achieve this I use soap and glorys powder highlighter which adds a glow and leaves my cheeks with a nice rosy tint.

12. Kate Middleton always works a gorgeous smokey eye. You can achieve this by using an eyeliner and some neutral eyeshadows. I chose to use my new bare minerals palette which has some gorgeous colour choices.

13. Finish off the look with lashing of my favourite wonder perfect mascara! It's literally the best and I love the packaging!!

Et Viola ! Not quite the princess herself, but it's a good place to start!

Happy Birthday Duchess!

Until Next Time

Say Goodbye to YoYo diets!

Hey guys,

So it's January and it's inevitable that we have all made the same repetitive New Years resolutions we always make. "Must get fit" "must go on a diet."

Although we think these resolutions will push us to achieve I often wonder if we set ourselves up for failure.

At the moment I see endless posts about juice diets, soup diets and the 5:2 diet. I have tried all 3 and I have to say I'm not the greatest fan. The worst thing about them all? Is you end up yoyoing back and forth!

This January I've decided to make a change and instead of going on a 'diet' I'm going to change my lifestyle.

I'd never really heard about clean eating until Greg Johnson approached me with his new book "Clean eating for busy people." At first I thought it was going to be another diet, but once I read his "liberation formula" it all seemed to make sense.

I'm going to keep a personal week by week progress diary so you can see how it really works, but until then I've got an interview with author and personal trainer Greg Johnson to keep you busy!

Hi Greg! Can you tell my readers a little bit about yourself?

I’m an expert at coaching males and females to get their bodies and life back in shape in the fastest possible time. I work with busy people who lack the confidence and clear action plan they need to get back on track. I’ve worked with celebrities, CEO’s and attend training courses with some of the Worlds leading coaches.

Unlike other coaches I ONLY train people who want to literally re-invent themselves and unleash confidence. I am solely dedicated to my clients’ success, nothing else.

Why did you decide to write this book?

I wrote this book and program because it eliminates the need to diet or feel like you have to give up delicious food in order to lose weight. I was shocked at how much stress people put onto themselves in order to shed a few pounds. It’s really a lot simpler than people think.

Another reason is I wanted to help more people who I can’t see in person or are not in a position to pay my private coaching costs. It’s worked out really well and I’ve been helping people to obtain unbelievable weight loss as far as london all the way to Newcastle for the price of just one coaching session. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done as now people can discover the truth but not break the bank or waste money on bad advice.

What makes this plan different from other diets out there?

The difference is this is not a diet, my mission is to get people to understand that this is a lifestyle choice that is eternal and will never feel like a chore.

This is purely an education for you so you never have to guess as to what does and doesn’t work. This system has helped 1,000s of my own private clients completely change their life and now others have the chance to do the same.

What is "Clean" eating?

For a long time now we have been using the phrase “eating clean”.
And after speaking to a few of my followers they were unsure of what it really means.
Yeah they know it’s about eating healthy but what counts as ‘Clean Food’?
It’s all about removing the toxins and elements from your diet to give your body a chance to start working more efficiently.
Eating clean generally means removing certain foods from your diet.
Removing foods like: Refined sugar, Alcohol, caffeine, processed food, wheat and gluten to name a few. The health problems people have healthwise when these are present is heavily linked.
In short, the more of these foods we eat the more unhealthy we will become!!

What can people expect from the program?

If anyone experiences anything on the list below then I can pretty much guarantee they will be eliminated...

Premature Aging
Allergic reactions
Brain fog, poor memory and concentration
Headaches, migraines
High blood pressure, fluid retention
Heart palpitations
Poor digestion
Reduced tolerance to alcohol
Easy weight gain, difficulty losing weight
Chronic fatigue
Hot flushes, excessive sweating
Rhinitis, hay fever, asthma
Hives, acne, eczema
Dark circles under eyes

This is not just about losing some excess body fat i’t’s about achieving optimum health and when you do I can guarantee you will lose more body fat than on any diet. It’s to teach your body to be fat adapted, which means it will look to burn body fat as energy.

One problem people face on a diet is feeling hungry. This way of eating will not spike blood insulin levels so feeling hungry on change of diet will be a thing of the past.

What's the best results that any of your clients have experienced to date?

I’ve had many great results using this system but Judith’s is fantastic proof of how great this can be for someone. This is her own written testimonial

Starting Greg’s “Liberation formula and cook book” has been the best decision I have ever made. I’ve experienced phenomenal results, losing 21lbs in less than 4 weeks. I’ve tried every “diet” that exists, to no avail. This has been so easy, after the initial few days, which were a little tough to adapt; I’ve seriously never felt better. I have loads more energy and I am NEVER hungry. The best bit is I no longer crave sweet things. I spend a lot of time in hotels and eat out most weekends and it fits in with my busy lifestyle. What’s even more AMAZING is I’ve been a diabetic for a number of years and I was very heavily dependent on medication... Now I’m free after just 28 days and hoping that within six months I will have reversed my illness. I’m telling all my family and friends, they need to do this NOW, as the benefits speak for themselves.

You mention in your book that clean eating doesn't have to be costly. How does your cook book tackle this?

As humans seem to have conditioned ourselves that good, nutritiously dense food is out of our price bracket but we are happy buy coffees daily at £3-4 each equating to £80 per month having just one per day for example. By cutting out the following you can save money and adjust to buying organic produce. I have listed some below to give you an idea...

Fizzy drinks
Take aways (takes the same time to make my food)

If you want results then you must do things differently and most farm shops will deliver fresh fruit and veg to your door.

Does this program require exercise alongside it to achieve maximum results?

It’s not essential to begin with. One of the most common obstacles and excuses is not having time to  make a lifestyle change so when people say to me they have been to the gym but they are not eating correctly I ask them to flip their focus and I guarantee they will have time. Because nutrition is 80% of the results at first it’s so important to make this the foundations or failure to reach your goal will be apparent. However if you are nailing the nutrition side then I would recommend becoming more active and following a good resistance and cardio program but this will depend if your sleep is good and your stress levels are balanced. In short I would say exercise should be last on the list but a very important factor to get right when it comes to that stage. I always say you must eat to support your training not train to support bad eating which is a recipe for disaster.

Thanks Greg!

Greg offers the book, the program and unlimited email support for the 28 days at £97*

Until next time!

Natio vs Clarins - Body Toning

Hey guys!

So the last few weeks I've been on a bit of a spree in the sales and I said I'd keep you up to date on all of the goodies I'd got. As a few of the products claim to achieve the same things I thought I would do a series of comparisons between the products so you can see which is the best!!

This week as January is all about getting fit, toning up and looking great I'm going to focus on products that focus on firming and toning.

I've always been sceptical about these kind of creams and oils as I think realistically the only way to achieve noticeable results is to get your bum to the gym!! Much to my own personal dismay. (Insert sad emoji here!)

First up is a brand I hadn't heard of before called Natio. It's an Australian brand that prides itself on using the finest natural ingredients with 100% pure essential oils.

I got the smooth firming and toning body lotion for a bargain £6 in the debenhams sale. It's normally £12 a bottle and when mine arrived it still had an old sticker on saying £20 so I consider that it was a total bargain.

It claims to tone and smooth and slow the visible signs of ageing. Now at 23 I'm not massively worried about ageing but professionals state you should start to tackle the signs of ageing in you early 20's and I love a good body lotion so I was excited to try.

Score : 7/10

The lotion is a little runny. It makes it a little hard to apply as it seeps through your fingers so I'd recommend applying it in your bathroom just to be safe!

After 2 weeks of use I've noticed that some of the cellulite on my thighs is less noticeable. I know this isn't the creams intentions, but result!! The skin on my legs also feels soft and feels nice and perky.

I'd definitely buy this again even at full price and I'm going to be sure to check out some of their other products!

Next up is the Clarins Tonic body treatment oil. I received this as a freebie which can be seen in my series of January sales haul posts. I'd never used any Clarins products and I think I may now be a convert.

Score : 9/10

The smell of the oil is Devine. When I use it I instantly feel as though I have been transported into a spa and so I feel completely relaxed.

The application of the oil is fairly easy although the hole in the top of the bottle is quite wide so it makes it difficult to use the oil sparingly! I've also used the oil in a bath instead of bubble bath and I have left feeling smooth all over.

I chose to test it mostly on my tummy area and I have also used it on a scar and some small stretch marks. This stuff is amazing!!! It's like liquid gold. The appearance of these areas is smooth and some of the marks have even vanished. I would definitely buy this again even though it is on the slightly expensive side at £38 for 100ml.

Winner: Clarins!

If you can afford to splash I'd definitely say go for the Clarins toning oil as it is well worth the money. If it's out of your budget the Natio is still well worth the £6 sale price tag.

Until next time

Elf Haul

Hey guys!!

So here is my 3rd and final beauty related sales haul. I made my first ever purchase from the elf website and I'm really pleased!

My favourite and most exciting thing that I bought was the 100 piece marble eyeshadow palette! I would've done a swatch for you but 100 would've made this a very long post!! So instead I will have a play and treat you to some tutorials later on instead.

Next I decided to try their tinted moisturiser in ivory. These were 75p each!!!!!! So I went for two.

Next I went for the primer eyeshadow in misty mauve. It's a really pretty metallic colour and I think it will make my green blue eyes pop.

I love lipsticks and I have a bit of a thing for all shades of red and I think this ruby slipper shade will be no exception!

I'm really pleased with the colours and I can't wait to try them out. The tinted moisturiser looks really dewy so I'm hoping it will give my skin a really sheer barely there look!

I'll be sure to upload some pics when I've had a go with all of my goodies!

Until next time

In that post I promised you 2 more sales posts of my other goodies!

So here's the next one. This is my 2nd sales haul from debenhams, but from their online selection.

First I tried to scout out the Benefit on sale. I've always been a bit of a fanatic with their products so I jumped at the chance when I saw this on sale:

Next I couldn't resist treating myself to this bare minerals eye Palette:

Not only is the case a beautiful rose gold metal, but the colours inside are Devine! I already had a play for New Year's Eve and I can't wait to share some looks with you

I'm really pleased with these buys and I can't wait to try them all out, now just waiting for my ELF order to arrive!

Until next time

My hopes for 2014

Hey guys,

So 2013 has been a here nor there year. For once in the past few years everything has ran positively smoothly. There are no notes of spectacular adversities and yet no further notes of tradgedy. It was just a good solid year.

If I am to take anything from 2013 it would be that this is the year I have finally come to fully appreciate my parents. I get them and they get me.

Although when my beautiful mum fell seriously Ill about five years ago and spent the next five years battling brain haemorrhages, aneurysms and strokes. This gave me an appreciation of her strength, her ability to keep us all going in hard times, even when she thought she might die. She even wrote us all a 'final letter' just incase and I will cherish those words forever.

Although I learnt to appreciate these amazing attributes of my mums personality, what I got to appreciate in 2013 was something much stronger. I got to appreciate her recovery. With every day of 2013 she was becoming her normal self.

The caring, unassuming, loving, silly and funny mum that we used to know. After her final brain surgery there is no longer a cloud of will it happen today? Or the next? And I feel this has lifted us all.

I now truly appreciate the times my parents drop everything to come and look after me after one phone call when I've had a funny turn. Or that they would give us, their children their last £20 to keep us going.

I appreciate my dads odd sense of humour and his ability to keep the house going, albeit with a kick up the bum from my mum. But he's been there all the way.

In 2014 my parents will celebrate their 30 year wedding anniversary and I think they have persevered when many others have walked away. My parents have true love and because of this, in 2013 I gained a new perspective on parents.

Everything they do is out of love. So in 2014 even if they are irritating the hell out of me because they know best. Part of me will truly believe them.

Until next time
