Philosophy Skin Serum Review / What She Did

At the moment I am massively addicted to skin serums. I'm genuinely intrigued by all the good they can do, so when I came across the Keep The Peace serum by Philosophy in boots on sale I snapped it up pronto!

The Philosophy super soothing skin serum contains natural extracts to help soothe irritation and minimize redness. The antioxidant enriched formula helps protect skin against environmental factors and it helps to maintain a healthy skin barrier to minimize dryness.

My Verdict

Ok so I'm not going to lie and pretend that this smells amazing, because it doesn't, considering it contains 'natural extracts' it actually doesn't smell that great and is quite chemically scented, but if you can get past that the this is actually a pretty great product. The instructions recommend that you smooth 3-4 drops of serum in the palm of your hands morning and night after cleansing and prior to moisturising to see maximum results. I have been using this alongside the Philosophy super soothing face mask for about 3 weeks now and the results have been great. The red patches of skin have died down and my skin does have a better over all appearance.

Would I buy this skin serum again? Yes I would but it's quite hard to get hold of because I think it's been discontinued, after a bit of research online, you can get it for about £12-20 from eBay.  If you see it at your local boots in the clearance section I'd recommend you snap it up, because it's great for sensitive and red skin.

I'd give this product an 8/10!

Love Me Beauty Box / March / What She Did

Ok so I will be the first to admit I wasn't that excited for the arrival of my Love Me Beauty subscription box this month. I subscribed later in the month and so sadly by the time I was able to pick from the boutique the box I REALLY wanted had already gone, so a little tip for any wanna be subscribers, subscribe at the start of the month and then you'll get first pick at the goodies!

March Love Me Beauty Box

I opted for option 2 on the menu and when it arrived and I started to individually check out the products and I can say my fears of a let down box were subsided.

The Vintage Cosmetic Company 'Gracie' Lashes (Full Size) RRP £6

Vintage cosmetic company false lashes

I've never heard of this company before and I cannot deny how gorgeous and girly the packaging on these is! I'm not usually a fan of strip lashes and tend to opt for the individual kits usually, but the style of these look really fluttery and cute! I just need to find an excuse to wear them now!

Nip & Fab Topical Muscle Cooling Gel (Full size) RRP £9.95

Nio & Fab post workout gel

I'm not going to sit here and pretend that I am some gym goddess, because I hate it, but every now and again all of us have those days where our muscles are aching all over. I spend the whole of every working day on my feet and so my legs are often tired and tight so I thought this would be perfect for those days. It looks a bit like a roller ball deodorant when you take off the lid and I tried a little bit on a patch of my leg and it has a lovely cooling effect.

Murad Pore & Line Minimizing Hydrator (Sample Size 10ml) RRP Full Size £49.50 (50ml)

Murad pore minimizing hydrator

This is one of the items I am most looking forward to trying out! I am a massive facial care addict at the moment, trying out every lotion and potion going in the search of perfect skin. I've also heard a lot about the brand Murad and so this has made me even more intrigued. The dual action, hydrating lotion claims to create plumper, firmer skin. It also claims to help reduce the appearance of pores and repair skin breakouts.

Deep Steep Moisture Stick in 'Honeydew Spearmint' (Full size) RRP £3.60

Deep steep moisture stick

This smells amazing!!! My skin at the moment is as dry as anything so I love the idea of a moisture stick. It's a bit like a pritt stick for your skin, only without the stickiness! It melts and glides gently along your skin leaving it moisturised and silky smooth.

Quintessentially English Bath Salts in 'Summer Solstice' (Sample size 50g) RRP £4.25 (100g)

Quintisentially english bath salts

If you didn't already know, I love a good bath, so I'm very excited to try these out. I love the idea of the name, it makes me want to hop into a bath right away!

Blanx White Shock Toothpaste (Sample size 15ml) RRP £7.50 (50ml)

Blanx white shock toothpaste

I have to admit that toothpaste may not be the first thought that springs to mind when you think of a beauty box, but who doesn't want white teeth? If you've seen my twitter recently you'll know in desperate for some pearly whites, as years of coffee and tea drinking have left my teeth less than desirable. This toothpaste can be used the same as any other daily toothpaste so it's super easy to blend it into your everyday routine.

Box cost: £10 + £2.95 postage.
Actual Box total value: £33.84 (I always work out the actual value of boxes by dividing the RRP by the actual product values given.)

I definitely have to eat my own words for this box after my moan the other day as I'm actually really pleased with the contents of the Love Me Beauty subscription box this month. These boxes are fab value for what you get inside and I do like the idea that you get an option of what to have each month, I would just recommend subscribing at the start of the month so you get the best choice!

This is also my first post using my brand new canon 600d camera! I'm soooo in love with it and I think the change in quality of my photos speaks volumes. I hope you like the new style of my photos!

Until Next Time

Mothers Day Original Gift Idea / What She Did

This week the blog is all about Mother's Day, so I thought what better way to kick things off than with my Mothers Day gift guide.

Every mum is special and so her present should be just as special as she is! I always think Mothers day requires a gift that's personal, and so I have made it almost a tradition that every year I make a personal gift hamper for my mum.

The fab thing about this present is that you can tailor it perfectly to your budget, you can be as DIY as you like and you can tailor it to lots of different tastes!

So where to begin? For my mum this year I am making her a box of beauty goodies I think she would love. I went to boots and luckily as they have lots of offers on I spent about £25 and have filled a box with lots of goodies!

You will need a box, any box will do. If you want to go all out you can buy a ready made gift box from a card shop, if you're into recycling or don't have the money, simply take a cardboard box an wrap it in gift wrapping paper for the same look at half the cost!

In my mums box:

Mothers day gift

Seventeen eye crayon

Seventeen stay pout

Seventeen cheek stamp

Exfoliating sponge

Olay face wash

Nivea body firming lotion

Thorntons toffees

Models own makeup brush

I also added in a body shop hemp hand cream as it's super soothing.

I added some of my mums favourites and also a few things I know she will enjoy or has said she was after!

The great thing about this Mother's Day gift idea is that you don't have to just include beauty products. If your mum is a nail fanatic you can fill it with polish, if she loves a good cup of tea add a mug and lots of different tea varieties! Wine addict?! Add lots of mini bottles and some of her favourite chocolates. The possibilities really are endless and because it's tailored to your mums favourites she'll know it's taken lots of thought and effort! Winner!!

Mothers day gift

What do you think of this Mother's Day gift guide? What are you getting for your mum?

Philosophy "Keep The Peace" Super Soothing Instant Relief Mask Review /What She Did

I always hear a lot about Philosophy in the beauty blogger circles, so when I saw this Super Soothing Instant Relief Philosophy face mask in the clearance at boots I thought I had to give it a whirl!

Philosophy's Keep The Peace facemask claims to bring relief to sensitive skin and calm redness. Formulated with montmorillonite clay to fight the redness, aloe to soothe the skin and glycerin for extra hydration, it has the perfect combination of ingredients to battle your sensitive skin.

So what did I make of this philosophy face mask?

First of all, the packaging: It comes in a white tube, decorated with the philosophy font and writing we all know and love. The pale blue Keep The Peace range title follows through with the calming and soothing feel of the whole product and would be a sleek addition to any dressing table.

Philosophy face mask

The mask: The mask has a thick and somewhat heavy consistency but don't let that put you off. You can really use this product sparingly, which means just one tube will last you for ages. It doesn't really have a scent, except for a light natural earthy smell, which again is great for sensitive skin, as it can often leave it dry. The instructions request that you leave the mask on for 3-5 minutes, in which time the face mask starts to harden. Cleanse the mask away from your face with a warm cloth and pat with a cold flannel to close all of your pores, pay dry and you'll have amazing skin.

Philosophy face mask

Overall verdict: I have been using the mask once a week for about 3 weeks now and I have noticed a great improvement on the overall redness of my skin. Areas around my nose and chin that are usually sensitive and sometimes painful are smooth and clear with barely any redness at all!

I would definitely recommend this face mask and I'm now really looking forward to trying out some other philosophy products.

If you'd like to try it for yourself you'll have to be quick and hunt it down in your local boots clearance section (and I really recommend you do) for £12 or if you're already too late it's available for about £10 on eBay.

What do you think of philosophy's skin care range? Have you ever tried this philosophy face mask?

Why #daretobare REALLY matters!

On Facebook and twitter you will have noticed the numerous selfies posted with the #daretobare or #nomakeupselfie tag with a nomination attached. There have been many arguments as to what this actually achieves for cancer and whether it is just an opportunity for vain individuals to post a makeup free photo and have the compliments flowing in.

I strongly disagree with the last statement. I know the official #daretobare campaign was actually in October during breast cancer awareness week, but for all of those getting on their high horse about why the selfies matter, is it hurting you? Is it offending you? Or is it starting a conversation, a conversation between young girls encouraging eachother to check those boobies and encourage their friends to do the same.

I myself have experienced a scare and so I wanted to share my experience to encourage others to so the same.

My experience

I was in the bath one night and I don't know what encouraged me to check, I think I'd recently been to a festival and had met the coppafeel team, but there it was as clear as day, large enough that I could find it immediately, a lump.

I remember being terrified. I confided in my two best friends at the time and they assured me it was probably nothing but I should go and get it checked immediately! Both of them asked me if they could feel where it was and although it was slightly weird, I obliged because they both wanted to know what to look for.

I went to the doctor and they sent me to the hospital for some scans, because of my age I wasn't on an emergency appointment but all appointments for lumps are generally fast tracked so I didn't have to wait too long at all.

When I arrived at the hospital I was asked to wait in the waiting room in a gown. Luckily most of these areas are men free zones, so there is no need to be embarrassed!

I was seen by two consultants, but because of my age I was only given an ultrasound. Luckily both of the consultants were happy that what they found was a fibroadenoma, a small, harmless growth. I could have it removed if it got uncomfortable or I could happily live on.

I have to remind myself that the story could have been so different and that's why it's so important to keep an eye out and report anything unusual to your gp! Don't be embarrassed, it's what they're there for.

With that in mind. Here is my makeup free selfie and if just one of you remembers to check or tells your gp of any changes, then surely it's more than worth it!

OOTD - Missguided dress

As you will know if you are an avid reader of my blog or catch up with me during in any chats as of late, I am having a massssssive love affair with pastels. So the second I set eyes on this dress from missguided I was in love. Bodycon fit, floral design, pretty pastel mint green colour AND a collar, what more could a girl need? Jessie Rose Print Dress - £19.99

As it's still a bit cold outside, (don't be too fooled by that amazing sunshine) I paired the dress with my trusty black Zara boyfriend coat. It cost me £29.99 and I think I have had more wear out of it than any coat I have ever owned.

I finished off the look with some boots opaque tights, H&M ballet pumps and my amazing Isla Rule Mae Handbag* which is more than big enough to carry all the blogger essentials and then some! Isla Rule - Mae Handbag - £285*

I hope you're all enjoying the beautiful weather,

ELF Editorial Comp

If you haven't already seen and heard on twitter, ELF cosmetics are holding a £50 competition with the tag #elfeditoral. I decided I wanted to give it a whirl and it gave me an excuse to use all of my elf goodies I've aquired recently!

As the weather was foggy outside the idea was to go for a mystical look with this springs hottest pastel colour - lilac. I wanted to be bold and take a risk so I decided to add this to the lip and matched the colour exactly.

Here's my look:

I went for a high impact light and edit to give the look a really bright an etheral feel. I think it helps to achieve the feel in the photos.

I achieved the look by finally using some of the purple shades in the ELF 100 piece marble eye shadow palette. I would never have thought to use a lilac or purple on myself before, but it gives my blue/green/yellow eyes a big pop!

I created a silky base by using an elf tinted moisturiser in ivory and a dust of ELF's HD powder.

I wanted a slight shimmery effect on my cheeks so smudged a tiny bit of an ELF jumbo Lipgloss stick in Tiki Torches and finished the cheeks of with a dusting of ELF's pigment eyeshadow in colour D28 which is a shimmery white colour, that has pigments of pink running through it.

I wanted to match the lip exactly and so I mixed one of the lilac eyeshadows with a lipbalm and gently painted it onto the lip.

To finish off the look I added some clear ELF lengthening & Defining mascara.

Now that I've been playing with my ELF palette a bit more I can't wait to create a few more looks.

Until Next Time

The Beauty Crowd - Would You Rather Tag

I've just stumbled upon the Beauty Crowd's would you rather tag! As #bbloggers chat is drawing to a close I thought it would be fun to give it a whirl: so here it goes:

1. Would you rather be able to apply eyeliner perfectly or be able to contour like Kim Kardashian?

I think I'd like to be able to apply eyeliner perfectly, I have such a shakey hand!! It's a nightmare because I love a feline flick.

2. Would you rather wear foundation which is two shades lighter or two shades darker?

I'm very pale, so I think they'd struggle to find a foundation 2 shades lighter anyway! Hehe

3. Would you rather wear no lipstick ever again or no eyeliner ever again?

No lipstick ever again! Beauty bloggers everywhere are now crying in shame!! But I have massive eyes so a pop of eyeliner is essential!

4. Would you rather give up your foundation or your mascara?

I'd rather give up mascara! Can't beat a good base and you can always curl your eyelashes or sneakily have them tinted.

5. Would you rather apply your makeup yourself with no mirror whilst on a bumpy car journey or ask a 5 year old child to do it?

Definitely applied myself with no mirror! You can feel your own face right?! I don't think a 5 year olds version of pretty correlates with my own!!

6. Would you rather wear exactly the same makeup every single day for the rest of your life or drastically change your makeup every single day for the rest of your life (even if it doesn’t suit you!)?

I'm a comfort makeup addict, I rarely jump out of my makeup comfort zone. I think a change of eyeshadow from white to gold is drastic. So I'd definitely rather wear the same for life.

7. Would rather have dodgy brows or have patchy fake tan?

Patchy fake tan, you can hide that with loads of clothes. Everywhere.

8. Would you rather have perfectly white teeth or have your perfect hairstyle?

Perfectly white teeth! I'm dying for pearly whites right now!

9. Would you rather wear the same colour nail varnish for the rest of your life or be able to change the colours of your varnish whenever you like but it’s always a little bit smudged?

The same nail polish! That good old comfort zone again! ;)

10. Would you rather have lots of scented body and perfume products that smell amazing to you but to everyone else you smell like pine tree car air freshener or have products that smell average to you but smell incredible to those around you?

That's a toughie! But bad scents give me a migraine... And I'm probably being selfish, but I'll go with smelling amazing to me. After all, you spend a hell of a lot of time with yourself.

And that's the end of that tag!

I really do love a good tag. Thanks beauty crowd for a fab new tag.

Until Next Time

Making The Cut - My fear of visiting the hairdressers.

It sounds stupid, unreasonable and down right weird, but the thought of visiting a hairdressers fills me with dread. It's up there with a visit to the dentist in my list of loathed appointments and I will do anything I can to avoid the cut.

A fan of the DIY trim and home dye experiments, I admit I have had a few hair disastors in my time and yet the thought of sitting in the hairdressers chair fills me with fear.

What should be a lovely pamper session, is never really that for me. I don't know when it started or why it happens, but I'd rather avoid it altogether. There isn't one moment of sitting in a hairdressers chair I can put my finger on that makes me think "that's why I don't like the hairdressers."

And so I struggle on with my experimental DIY dos and hope for the best I can.

Every now and again I do build up the courage to head to the seat of doom and let them tend to my poor poor tresses, but I am still yet to find an experience that makes me feel calm and collected.

Since my hair has got longer, my "hair anxiety," shall we call it has got worse. The thought of someone lopping off my dutifully and lovingly grown locks because of "split ends and damage" has me in a cold sweat.

"It's just hair" I hear you say, and I get it, I really do, but to me it's more than that, it's the judgement of the hairdresser on the condition of my hair, it's our disagreement on what an inch really is, it's mine vs their idea of my perfect colour and so I would rather keep my unreasonable fear and my money to myself and carry on.

Do you have any unusual/weird anxieties or appointments you hate going to? Please tell me I'm not alone!

Until Next Time

#vloggerschat

Ever since I started my YouTube videos, I longed for a community and chat so I could communicate about all things vlogging!

I struggled to find one and so decided to host one myself.

The first chat is planned to take place 8-9pm (uk time) over on @vloggers_space. Although I know it won't all fall into place over night I need lots of you to get involved to get it off the ground!

The first weeks topic is back to basics and it will follow the usual chat format. For any chat newbies, I will ask a question marked Q1 etc. And then you have the freedom to answer & chat away with eachother at your leisure! I like to mark my answers with A1 etc so that people can follow my answers, but do whatever works best for you.

The hashtag for the chat will be #vloggerschat , if you get lost, you can click or search this at any time to catch up on what's been said!

The questions:

1. What inspired you to start your vlog?
2. What do you use to film your videos?
3. What kind of videos do you enjoy watching yourself?
4. Do you tell friends and family about your vlog and are they supportive?
5. If you own a blog, how easy have you found the transition to YouTube?

I'm going to start with 5 questions this week to get us started, as I'm sure we'll have lots to talk about!

After all the questions are done, hopefully you'll have made some new vlog buddies and we can all swap vlogging links!

I'm so excited and I hope you are too!

See you all there!

Free From Frizz - Shampoo & Conditioner review

If you saw my last post, you'll have seen my latest blog haul, albeit a slightly different one, with sketches of products in pictures.

In that haul I mentioned a new product discovery from a range called Free From Frizz. The product claims that the shampoo and conditioner will fight away the dreaded winter frizz and leave your hair shiny and smooth using their secret high tech patent pending formula!

If that's not got you excited, then next we should focus on the bottles! I love them. It was what caught my eye first, they look like little milk bottles! The bright orange packaging certainly has a knack for brightening up a rather dull day. Then there's the scent, I went for mango, it smells just like a mango yogurt, which if you love mango yogurts, is amazing!!!

Now we've established the elements that drew me to pop these through the till at boots, let's get down to the nitty gritty!

Pros

After just one wash my lifeless, dull and poor split ended hair, was glossy, shiny and smooth. Not a spot of frizz in sight! I was really pleased with it and I think it's definitely worth paying the £6.99 per bottle price tag!

Cons

If your a blondie, like me, you might notice that after a few washes it makes your hair rather brassy, so I'd suggest using this every other wash in between your usual blonde shampoo!

All in all I was very pleased with it and I would definitely buy it again and If they could invent a silver shampoo version for us blondies that smelled of blueberries I'd be first in the queue!

They also do a free from frizz kit, available for £14.99 from boots. It claims to give you frizz free hair for up to 6 weeks and I must say after buying the shampoo and conditioner, I'd be tempted to give it a whirl!

How about you?

Until Next Time,

Boots Mini Haul - illustration

So I decided to do something different with my haul post this time! I didn't get around to doing any snazzy photos of the new products as I was too eager to rip them open, so I decided to draw them instead!

1. Rimmel wake me up concealer- £5.49 - This had been recommended to me time and time again. I'm pretty damn chuffed with it!

2. No7 Revitalising hand Saviour - £11.50 - I get the worst dry hands in the winter, so as it was 3 for 2 I decided to give it a whirl. It's basically a sugary scrub mixed with an oil to make your hands ultra soft!

3. Free From Frizz Blowout Shampoo & Conditioner - £6.99 - Every girls frizz saviour! I won't go too far Into this as I'm hoping to do a featured review, but I'd spotted this in the Q system of boots every day and so wanted to give it a try. It smells yummy!

4. Beautiful Skin - No7 - Wipes - £2 with current No7 voucher - You can never have too many wipes, so when I realised I could get these for the same price as my cheapo ones with my voucher, I was dead chuffed!

5. Eucerin Intensive Hand Cream - £9 - Another dry hand saviour! I can't recommend this product enough, so with 3 for 2 on I decided to stock up, as it's a handbag must have!

I hope you've enjoyed my mini haul with a twist!! Let me know what you think in the comments below.

Until Next Time
