Smoke and Kisses

They say that you shouldn't do the double and mix lips and eyes all at the same time, but there's something I love about the clash of a red lip against a smouldering smokey eye.

To create this look the products I've used are:

- Revlon ColourStay Foundation, Ivory
- Laura Mercier High coverage underwhelming concealer, 0.5
- Makeup Revolution, Mermaids vs Unicorn palette
- Charlotte Tilbury Lipstick, Red carpet red
- Benefit, They're real mascara

Shrinking Violet Body Wraps

A month ago I was very excited for something that landed on my door step, having heard lots about shrinking violet* wraps used in salons, I was intrigued to hear that they had branched out into at home kits.

Tipped to be one of the latest celebrity go to products, I couldn't wait to put it to the test.

What is it?

The shrinking violet at home kit uses a process called lipolysis, which is a revolutionary way to remove unwanted fat from the body. Lipolysis breaks down the fat cells within the body and removes it from problem areas as the unwanted cells are excreted from the body.

How did I find it?

The kit proclaims that you can lose up to two inches in just one 60 minute session.
I have to admit to being a little cynical when I first heard about the product. I didn't quite want to believe that a wonder product like this could exist, because nothing is ever that easy.

I used the product for the first time, donning on my lovely, space age silver suit and settled myself down to watch a film. After about 10 minutes I started to feel the warmth of the suit and it got quite hot and sticky, maybe even slightly uncomfortable. After nearly an hour I was starting to question if it was worth it, but I stuck it out to check my new measurements post treatment.

I couldn't actually believe I'd lost two inches from all of the problem areas of my body. As I continued to use the product on my problem areas I noticed the inch loss started to slow down somewhat, but I didn't regain the inches i'd lost either.

The product does champion itself as a kickstart product, rather than as a solution and recommends that you also follow a healthy diet, so I definitely wouldn't recommend that you rely solely on this product if you're looking for significant weight loss.

Would I buy it again?

If I knew I had a special occasion or a holiday coming up, I might just stretch to the £90 to buy a kit for the upcoming occasion, but I do have to admit it's not in my price range as something I would buy again and again, more of a treat. If you have the cash to splash I could see this definitely becoming a permanent fixture in some peoples routines.

Id give this product a 7/10 over all for ease of use, value for money and overall results.

Until next time

31 days of Halloween day two!

Meow! If you follow my Twitter you'll know I just got a little kitten, so what better way to honour her arrival than by doing a cat makeup look.

You'll have to forgive me for the photo on this one, the darker nights are drawing in and so are the out of focus photo sessions that come with still trying to figure your camera out.

Luckily for me i'd snapped a quick selfie on my iPhone also, so that the you guys still get to see.

I've decided from now on all looks will be posted on my Instagram, rather than as blogs, as a challenge like this is mainly pictorial, so if you'd like to keep up make sure to follow me on Instagram @whatshedidx.

I'll make sure to do a weekly update on here for those of you that don't have an Instagram so you guys can keep up to date too.

31 days of Halloween - Mystical Mermaid

I love Halloween makeup, it makes my heart sing. It's the time of year when you can whack out that crazy eyeshadow you never use and come up with some amazing creations.

You'll know here at What She Did I love setting myself a challenge, and as Halloweens on the way I thought I'd try and come up with 31 looks for Halloween all the way up to the very night itself!

First up I've gone for a creepy mermaid inspired look.

I first applied some white face paint as a base. Next I used the aptly named Makeup Revolution Mermaids vs unicorn palette and a pair of old fishnet tights. I added a little bits of gold leaf just to set off a few bits.

I think it goes perfectly with my new red hair... Now if only it was a little longer.

Three Fish Beefeater - Newport

Last week I was sent by Beefeater to try out the Three Fish in Newport. It was nice to get back to where What She Did began, eating food, having a good time and having the chance to write about it for you guys.

I was given vouchers to enjoy a meal and chose to took my mum and dad with me for a long overdue catch up.

The Three Fish in Newport offers your typical grill menu and a mix of house favourites , offering a selection of all the tasty treats you could want.

When we got there I liked how the restaurant is separated into sections by wooden partitions, it meant that even if the restaurant got busy, you still felt like you had your own private area to chat away which added to the atmosphere of this being a great place to catch up with family and friends.

We decided to go the whole hog and try their three course special evening menu which is great value at only £14.99 for 3 courses, available Monday - Thursday after 6.30pm, so that we could try a little bit of everything that was on offer.

For starters we opted for the crispy flat mushrooms, the tomato soup and the loaded potato dippers, which after a long chat we decided between ourselves were delicious. I opted for the loaded potato dippers which to be honest could have been shared between two as there was quite a lot.

For our mains we opted for the buffalo chicken burger, smoky paprika chicken and the bacon & cheese burger. These all came with tasty sides and the mains were polished off in no time.

We decided to end on a dessert, (for research purposes of course.) We opted for the Tropical Sundae, Cookie dough sundae and the warm chocolate brownie. Which were all absolutely delicious and the perfect way to top off the evening. Apparently these were so tasty I forgot to take some photos. Oops!

The service we received throughout the night was great, although if I had to quibble at anything it would be that attention to customers seemed to wane throughout the night with staff disappearing to clean up ready for home time, but this wouldn't put me off visiting again.

If you're looking for somewhere nice and relaxed with tasty food and an easy going atmosphere then I'd definitely recommend paying a visit.

You can find all the info you might need on Beefeater's website here.

The truth of living with 3 guys...

Recently I've moved into a house with not one, but three guys! Before I moved in I had no clue who I was moving in with, let alone that I would be the only girl in the house. I have to admit I was a bit worried at first as to how I would fit into the dynamic of the house, but after a few months here I'm finally settling in and we now joke it's a bit like the house in New Girl.

I thought it would be funny to do a post on the realities of what it's like to live in a house share as the only woman. It's a bit of a different one for me, but enjoy!

House Pet
At some point, you will end up with a house pet. In our case it was a bird that fell in some oil. We named him slick, we washed him, we tried and failed to feed him. He had a day of love and affection and when we finally decided it wasn't a great idea to care for a wild bird we sent him on his way much to the delight of his parents who looked as though they had been searching for him all day.

source

Food, glorious food...
When they say lets get some food, they don't mean from a cafe. They mean from a van in a lay by on the side of a busy road.

source
Nerf gun wars are no joke.
These are the real deal comrade. Boys take no prisoners, so you'd better be ready to run for your life and think of a top hiding spot with your weapon at the ready.

source

One beer never actually means one beer.
Luckily for me, I don't drink alcohol, but when the guys say "lets go out for a beer" it rarely translates into just one beer, so you'd better be ready for a late one.

source

These boys are not Gok Wan
Don't even bother asking for outfit advice. Ever. You have been warned.

source
Don't start a war you're not prepared to finish
Tickle wars, prank wars, play fights. If you're not prepared for the repercussions, its best not to them start them; If you're happy to be squashed under a pile of three grown men tickling you to death, then by all means, go for it.

source
When mother nature comes knocking once a month...
You'd better believe the boys have got your back. They'll pretty much provide you with anything to avoid a no chocolate, crazy eyed, bawling monster that they don't understand.

source
There are times when you will realise, you just arent "One of the lads"
In our house they built a makeshift bar in our garage and I am not a DIY kinda girl. In these circumstances its ok to sit back, relax and watch them do all the hard work, whilst you sit back and plan out how to make the place look awesome.

source
You're doing what?!
Men still are from Mars and women are still from Venus, so don't be surprised if you still find yourself asking WTF?! when they do some pretty weird things.

source
You sexy thing.
You'll spend approximately one week trying to look your bad ass sexy self every time you bump into one of them on the stairs, until that one time you decide to head downstairs in your Penguin pjs, cradling a tub of Ben&Jerry's covered in your favourite face mask, when you realise that, guess what? They don't even care! Let your normal routine resume.

source

They might even surprise you
Sometimes, guys get a bad rep, but I have to admit that after living here for a few months I couldn't have been more wrong. After moving in post bad break up I was ready to hate all men and could not have thought of anything worse than living with three of them, but I have to admit how wrong I was. These last few months have been some of the funniest and as someone who can sometimes be a little uptight, the guys have shown me its ok to have a bit of fun sometimes and at the end of it all, you've all got each others backs.

5 things we've all thought whilst watching Pretty Little Liars

Pretty Little Liars, what a tangled little love/hate relationship we have with you. It's the program we all love to hate and I can't go a few hours without seeing a tweet about the frustrations of getting hooked on this gloriously addictive yet annoying show!

Source

I thought it would be a bit of fun to put together 5 thoughts we've all probably had whilst binge watching 6 seasons only to still be left wondering; Who the F*#k is A?

(P.s don't read on if you're not up to date, 'cause Yano, spoilers!)

Do these girls know nothing about technology?
Why is your phone on loud when you're sneaking around!! Seriously, have you girls never heard of silent?

Source

Talking of which, have they never heard of safety in numbers?
Let's go to this really creepy dark place all by ourselves when we know A is out to get us because that's the most sensible thing to do, Right?

source

The brave feeling before watching.
I'll just watch this one episode before bed, it's not like it's THAT scary.

40 minutes later...

OMG that episode was SO creepy, I'm locking all my doors and windows tonight. Will someone please hold me whilst I sleep?

Source

Crushing on all the boys...
I think my crush is definitely Caleb, or maybe it's Toby, Ohhh but what about Ezra's dreamy eyes...can't hurt to like all three can it? Girls gotta have options!

source

Going A crazy
Who is A? Am I A? Maybe my middle name is Charles and I just don't know it? Is my cat A? She's been looking a little shifty recently...Maybe we're all A and this is some real freaky sh*t!

source

what frustrates you most about the show? Who the hell do you think A is? All of the questions?!??!?!?!

Tips to Achieve the Perfect Tan

The summer seems to be officially here with lots of bright days and as bikini season approaches most of us start to dream of beaches and the perfect tan. This week I wanted to throw a spotlight on my favourite products that help give me that post holiday glow, without the expensive plane ticket. Below I've compiled a list of tips, tricks and my favourite products to leave you looking like you've just stepped off the beach.

Moisturise, Moisturise, Moisturise...

My first tip would be to make sure you are suitably buffed and moisturised. There is nothing worse than applying tan and finding out later you have patches due to dry skin, which could of easily have been avoided if it wasn't for a bit of extra prep. I like to do a bit of multi-tasking when applying my moisturiser and so I always head for a bottle of Nivea Body firming lotion, it leaves my skin super soft and firms and tones it all in one go.

My top tip for moisturising would be when it comes to avoiding the dreaded patches on elbows, knees and ankles; Nothing gives away a fake bake than the tell tale signs of bright orange patches. My go to product to avoid this is Body Shop Beautifying oil. This super duper do it all product can be used for your body, face and hair and it smells absolutely delightful. Apply a teaspoon amount to each of the dry areas on your body, I find this stops the tan clinging to those areas and just leaves them with a light glow.

Go Gradual...

For all you pale girls out there worried of looking like an extra from Willy Wonka's chocolate factory, why not go gradual? As a fellow pale girl, when I don't want to risk it I'll often opt for a gradual alternative. Gradual tans were where I first got my fake tan bug from and they are a great alternative if you're just starting out. It does all the hard work for you as it moisturises and tans all in one, but be careful to wash the palms of your hands thoroughly, as I have been caught out in the past with some lovely luminous palms.

Do the double D...

When I was asked to review the Madame La La* Tan I was intrigued, could one tan really do it all? Well the answer is simply yes. I hear you crying what is a DD tan, well its a Dynamic do all tan and it really does do what it says on the tin. I have fallen in love with the light mousse and I use it when time isn't an issue. With a three hour developing time, I usually slather this little beauty on using a mitt, just before bed and wake up with an LA glow. The tan is infused with Coco Water, Aloe, Green tea, Vitamin E and Skin finishing protectors which all have amazing skin hydrating benefits. It also has innovative skin customising technology so your tan looks natural and adapts to your skin tone and it smells like coconuts! Whats not to love? This beauty is available for £36 at madamelala.com

For when Time is of the essence...

After a beautiful tan that works after just one hour? Then Cocoa Brown is the one for you. This innovative tan created by Marissa Carter is my go to tan before a big night out. It works effortlessly to give me the perfect bronzed glow. Its super easy to apply as its tinted formula can be applied flawlessly with a mitt. Not bad for a tan that costs just £7.99, available at Superdrug.

What are your go to summer tanning products?

Foundation Spotlight // Clarins Everlasting foundation+

Foundation, one of beauty's most simultaneously loved and hated companions; It can cover a multitude of sins and be the base for the most amazing looks, but how do you pick the right one for you? Get it wrong and you risk the dreaded tide line, but get it right and you'll be onto a true winner. With my often pale and tricky complexion I struggle to find foundations to suit. Over the years I've always turned to my favourite bloggers to come up with the goods and point me in the right direction. I thought as it was coming up to summer, a time when most of us refresh our makeup bags I would delve into my collection so you can see the pros and cons of all my trusty favourites. Over the next few weeks I'll be putting one of my foundations into the spotlight and giving you all the deets.

First up we have my newest purchase, Clarins Everlasting Foundation+ with SPF 15. Promising a flawless complexion for up to 18 hours, it's fluid, ultra fine texture is something to truly fall in love with. Never have I loved a foundation so quickly as I have this one, hence my excitement to show you.

Now onto the important bit, what does it actually look like, I hear you cry! Below you'll see two photos, one of my face before and one after I applied the foundation. There has been no editing, no light enhancing, no nothing to the photos so you can see exactly what this foundation is like:

Before:

After:

I love that the foundation evens my skin tone and gives it a lovely glow, which is perfect for the summer. Although it's a full coverage foundation, it doesn't feel heavy on my skin and with the added bonus of an SPF 15 it makes it perfect for those sunny summer days.

I've been wearing this at work daily with no touch ups and finding it still looks pretty much the same, even after a full and busy day. Some days I've even foregone powder as I love the finish of the foundation.

Now you know my thoughts on it, let's get the low down:

Price: £27
My Shade: 105 Nude. Darker than I'd usually go for, but perfect for that post summer glow.
Best for: I have dry/normal skin and I've found this is perfect for me.
Not great for: Having read a few reviews, most people are saying its not great for very dry skin, as my skin isn't too dry I've been ok, but I can see how it might cake on dry patches.
Applied with: I apply this with a buffing brush and gently blend as necessary with this and my fingers.
Pros: Long wear, full coverage & light texture.
Cons: Its not the cheapest of foundations, but I do truly believe it's worth it's price tag. I bought mine from boots, but you can find it elsewhere online slightly cheaper.
Score: 9.5/10

Stay tuned for next week when we put the spotlight on another foundation.

Until Next Time

Beach vibes

Last weekend I went for a little trip with a friend to Abersoch. Having never been there before I didn't quite know what I would make of it, but it is absolutely beautiful. It seems we picked the perfect weekend to go as the sun was shining gloriously.

The scenery was so gorgeous that it gave me the perfect opportunity to take out my DSLR for some fun in the sun and get to grips with it a bit better. I also thought it would be a great excuse to give you all some summer outfit inspo with my nautical inspired beach look.

Location: Abersoch
Playsuit: Topshop
Sunglasses: Peacocks

Room Tour / Home Haul

If you read my blog, you'll know that I have recently moved house and so I thought this week i'd blog a little home haul

I am currently obsessed with anything copper and so I wanted to base my new bedroom around a colour palette of copper, cream, grey and white. I wanted to keep it very minimal and sleek. My inspiration was how I imagine a boutique hotel.

I wanted to keep the backdrop clean, with lots of quirky accessories, here's a few bits and bobs I picked up along the way:

Copper Geometric Candle Holder Lantern - notonthehighstreet.com - £19.95

Grey Wooden Photo Frame - notonthehighstreet.com - £12
Copper Maroq Light Garland - notonthehighstreet.com - £21.50
Creativity Postcard - Paperchase - 60p

Springbok head - handmade in South Africa
Copper spray paint - wilkinsons - £3

Flowers - Wilkinsons - £2.50 per bunch
Vase - Boutique shop in Cornwall - £7

B LED Mini Carnival Light - notonthehighstreet.com - £30

Little Things Trinket Box - Homebase - £6.99

Assorted Jars - B&M - £3

Picture - Liverpool Tate - Free (legitimately I promise)
Cushions - Dunelm mill
White Bedding - B&M - £15.99

I love all my new little trinkets in my room and I'm enjoying putting all the girly touches on it. I hope you've enjoyed a little peek at my home haul. I'm thinking of doing a full room tour for my YouTube channel when I get a few more bits. If you'd be interested, let me know in the comments below.

Until Next Time
