Day to Night with Essence cosmetics

If you read my blog, you'll know I'm a huge fan of the budget beauty brand Essence cosmetics. So when they contacted me to tell me about their new bloggers 'day to night challenge' how could I resist?

With products that start from just a few pounds I can't fault Essence's products for when you want to buy great products on a budget, even if money was no object, I'd still be a massive fan on their lipsticks.

With summer evenings spent in beer gardens just around the corner, I've created two looks with heading straight from work to the pub in mind.

Day:

A super cute nude day time look is just the ticket for work, it keeps your look sleek and professional, but girly at the same time. To create this look you're going to need these products:

I started the look off with Essence pure skin anti spot moisturizing makeup, which evens out your skin tone and fights spots all in one. Next I used my fingers to apply the cream blush in shade 'Sweet as a Peach' for a creamy, dewy look. I brushed the eyeshadow gently over my whole eye and finished off my eyes with the 'all eyes on me' mascara. To finish the look off I applied this gorgeous essence nude lipstick in shade 'wearing only a smile.'

Not a bad daytime look, which only takes 5 products to create!

Night:

To ramp up the look for evening, I've used the same products as before, but added a few more that you could easily carry in your handbag and created an altogether more smokey and sultry look.
For this you're going to need:

3D eyeshadow in 'irresistible caramel cream', long lasting eye pencil in 'hot chocolate', Essence's eyebrow stylist set, my shade used here is 'blonde style' and for a super sultry look I added a splash of Essence XXXL shine gloss In Nude kiss.

I love both these looks and think they're super for day to night makeup on a budget. The perfect makeup you could carry in your handbag or keep in your locker at work. You can find all the products featured at your local wilkinsons store.

How great is blogging?

Next month will be my blogs second birthday and yesterday it got me thinking about just how great the world of blogging truly is. When you take a second to really think about it and push the negativity aside, it really is amazing, so here are a few things that I think make blogging great!

How great is it that thousands, upon thousands of people of all ages are finding a voice within the written word? In a generation of shorthand, people are finding a way to tell a story; To stand up for what they believe in, to write about their latest discoveries, desires and needs.

How great is it that the blogging world seems to know no bounds? Just when you think it might be dying out, a famous blogger does something amazing and paves the way for many others of us dreaming along the way.

How great is it that people can blog for money? I personally have never seen this as selling out, I wish luck to each and every individual who has slogged away for hours and hours, those who stayed up through the night making sure they have the best content available for their thousands of readers. Those fearless men and woman who have gone against the grain and jacked in their day jobs so that they can follow their passion.

How great is it that no matter where you are in the world, as long as you have a smart device and an Internet connection, you can talk to people all over the world? I myself am from a small town in Shropshire and never dreamed that there would be thousands of people reading my words each month and watching my little videos I recorded in my little bedroom.

And most of all, how great is it that blogging creates a community of love, hope, discovery and friendship? The amount of friendships I see blossoming every day on Twitter, through blogs and through YouTube always leaves me with a glow inside. Those people that feel like they are alone, can now always feel that there is someone just a few clicks away, who's got their back. I know myself that the community has helped me grow in confidence, kindness and in finding myself and I couldn't be more grateful to those I have 'met' along the way.

What do you think is so great about blogging?

The perfect camel coat

When spring comes around I can't WAIT to take off my thick winter coat and ditch it for something a little lighter. The only trouble is that this year my old trusty Mac is starting to look like it has seen better days.

Whilst having my usual evening browse on Twitter and eBay I stumbled upon this beauty.

A gorgeous camel coat that looks like it could come with an expensive price tag. The best bit? It cost under £20. Brand new, postage included.

The verdict? It's Devine! It's like someone made this amazing fashionable slanket and it's ours for the taking!

I paired mine on the windy beach with a pair of jeans, a basic tee and my favourite  Chelsea boots.

The great thing about this coat is that you can dress it up or down. A few weeks ago I paired mine with a jumpsuit and heels for an important event and it looked beaut, even if I do say so myself!

So where can you get your hands on this little gem I hear you cry, on eBay of course. I got mine from seller chique.boutique who were helpful, responded quickly and got it out to me for my special event in time. (with a little extra charge)

Excuse me whilst I go and wrap myself once again in its loveliness.

Until next time

Smashbox Blogger Event

This week I had the pleasure of attending my first ever blogger event with Smashbox and boots. Having never been to an event I didn't quite know what to expect, but I learnt a lot and really enjoyed myself.

For all you newbies out there, you might be wondering what is Smashbox? Well Smashbox is a cosmetics brand which was founded in 1990, born from a real photo studio, Smashbox studios LA.

I'd heard the name before the event, but I'd never really had the opportunity to try out any of their products and I didn't realise just what a cult brand they were.

In 2000 the brand released their signature foundation primer, which is now known as one of their most legendary products. At the event I learnt all about how far the primer has now come, and got to see their revolutionary primers that have all the benefits of the original primer, mixed with fabulous skincare benefits. My personal favourite was the Photo Finishing Hydrating Primer. As a girl with dry skin, ive been using my tester pot for a few days now and I think I have fallen in love.

Another primer that caught my eye was their Photo Finish Primer Water, free from silicone, alcohol and oil, this little spritzing genius can be used to hold and refresh your makeup all in one pump.

If primers aren't your thing, then Smashbox still has plenty to offer in the way of their foundations, contouring kits, lip liners, eyeliners and lipsticks. Here's a few of my favourites from the event:

I treated myself to the Studio Skin 15 hour wear foundation in shade 1.2 and an Always Sharp lip liner in Fuschia, which may just be the prettiest colour for spring/summer I have ever seen. I'm planning a post on these next week, so keep your eyes peeled.

Thanks to Charlotte and Kate who hosted a fabulous event and helped us out with their amazing makeup knowledge and experience. I can't wait to get my hands on some more Smashbox products.

OOTD - Double Denim

This week on what she wears were talking double denim. A tricky task to master. Whether you choose to clash your denim or do as ive done here by matching chambray and washed out denim, the choice is truly yours.

I can't get enough of denim right now, on my wishlist for spring summer I have my eye on a button down denim mini and a denim shirt dress.

I teamed my boyfriends Asos shirt here with my Topshop rough edge cut out jeans which I love this time of year. They are so comfy, I just can't get enough of them.

Shirt: Asos mens
Jeans: Topshop
Shoes: Peacocks

MyProtein - Time to get healthy

It's only a few more months until summer and that means we're only a few more months until the summer clothes make their way out of the wardrobe. I've made a pact with myself that this summer and the lead up to it will be healthier than they have before.

With a healthier lifestyle on my mind, when MyProtein contacted me about their range of high protein snacks and shakes, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to get myself into gear.

The problem with protein powders and protein products is that it's still widely recognised as a product for men, stereotypically those bulky, muscle builders you see in the gym, but that's just not the case.

Why is protein so important I hear you ask?

It's so important because your body uses it to repair and build tissues. Protein in your diet is also an important building block of bones, cartilage, skin and blood.

When you're trying to get fit and tone up, your muscles take the hit and so protein powders and snacks, help you to recover more efficiently.

This week ive been taste testing (mmmm yummy!) a range of MyProtein shakes and snacks and I have to say they're a lot nicer than I expected!

My personal favourites were the White chocolate almond cookies and the White chocolate impact whey protein powder. I just really love white chocolate.

I've also started cooking with Coconpure oil which is a 100% Virgin organic coconut oil. I've cooked with coconut oil before and so I was pleased to see this as part of my parcel. As a beauty blogger Id also be mad not to point out to you the amazing uses this actually has! It's a super duper multi tasker in that you can use it all over your body to keep your skin and hair soft and sleek!

You can find the full range of MyProtein at the hut.com.

FOTD - Direct Cosmetics

Spring is all about fresh summer makeup and it's also a fun time to clear out all your old bits and treat yourself to some new goodies.

I was contacted by Direct Cosmetics to pick some makeup to brighten up my spring selection.

I opted for the maxfactor foundation palette and a berry coloured clinique chubby stick.

To get the look start with the Max Factor Facefinity powder foundation and build a silky base on your skin. Apply a mascara to give you pretty fluttery lashes, tight line your lashes to make them look super thick and finish off with a slick of the Clinique Chubby stick in voluptuous violet.

I'm loving this simple day time look for spring, it's perfect for those days I'm in a rush. My favourite product is the chubby stick and I can't wait to pop it in my handbag to keep my lips silky smooth with a little pop of colour.

Direct Cosmetics is a website where you will find top brand cosmetics at a great price, You can find the products I used to create this look and so much more at directcosmetics.com
