2016 - A Reflection

I've written this, drafted it, posted it, deleted it and now I'm here.

2016 - the big one. The year that everyone hates. It's presumptuous to believe that everyone's 2016 has been bad due to the shit storm of the political landscape and the tragic deaths of much loved public figures. For many people it's much more personal and runs a little deeper.

I can't think of 2016 as all bad, this was the year I found myself shortlisted out of 10,000 for best beauty influencer in the cosmopolitan influencer awards, something I wouldn't have dreamed of happening in a million years. It's the year I fell in love, not with a man, but with makeup. I finally feel as though I've found a calling that I love completely and there is no life problem that a few hours sat at my dressing table doesn't help me forget for a little while.

Whilst it had its high points, the latter end of 2016 has not been the best. In 2015 after the breakdown of my four year relationship I found myself having to start all over again and promised myself that 2016 would be a new and independent beginning.

I got a new job, moved to a new town and got a place all by myself. After living with someone who told me how I should act, eat, dress, decorate and everything else in between for so long having my very own space felt amazing, I could finally find myself again.

What started off as refreshing finally started to calm as reality set in. As you get older it's seemingly harder to make friends. You're not forced into situations and have to scope them out for yourself.

I spent evenings alone in my flat and on weekends I found myself often not leaving the house, only gaining human interaction when I finally got to go back into work on the Monday. Whilst the new and forcefully independent me wanted to refuse to believe it, I was beginning to feel lonely.

To make matters worse, where I lived became seemingly less desirable as time went on. Loud parties ensued and walks to work were filled with shouts from cars and cat calling and it started to feel unsafe.

Throw on top of this my body failing from the stress and my Neurocardiogenic Syncope kicking in, everything felt like it began to crumble around me.

I couldn't do it anymore and so in October, whilst on the outside to anyone looking in, I was plodding along posting a makeup look per day, doing seemingly well for myself and getting noticed, inside I felt broken. If I look at those makeup looks now each one tells a story of my thoughts, offering an escape.

I finally braved it and explained my worries to my family and made the decision to move home.

I missed the countryside, the open air, the feeling of safety, walking freely in places I knew and loved. Friends at the end of a telephone and a short drive instead of miles away. Coffee shops on corners and sweet boutiques I could browse in for hours. I've never been a city girl and my heart has always longed for the countryside.

On the 30th November I moved home and it's probably the best decision I've made. So whilst my year might seem like a complete write off, inside I've learnt to be independent but know when it's time to seek help, I've pushed myself to take chances I never would have taken and I've finally learnt what I want from my life. While I don't know what 2017 holds, I look forward to the fresh slate that a new year brings and can't wait to see what's around the corner.

So here's to a new year, a growing me and new blank pages in the distance.

Until Next Time

Magnitone Precious Collection Review - Rose Quartz

About a month ago I was lucky enough to be sent one of the beautiful Magnitone Facial Cleansing brushes from the Barefaced Precious Collection. Having owned one of the previous models of Magnitone I couldn't wait to try the updated version, because last time I instantly fell in love.

For as long as I can remember I have always loved skincare, often the butt of friends jokes at parties and sleepovers when I'd nip off before bed to use my first ever cleansing brush. I love the idea of starting with fresh and beautiful skin before applying makeup and I always feel like a clean base is an essential.

The great thing about Magnitone brushes is that they don't change your usual skin routine and slot right in without you really noticing and because its waterproof, you can even use it in the shower for extra ease of use.

The science bit

Using Vibra-Sonic technology Magnitone ensures your skin is deeply cleansed whilst enjoying a toning massage. The brush claims to be 6X more effective than hand washing alone and is said to offer brighter, clearer skin in just 4 weeks.

My Thoughts

The Brush offers two modes; when you press the button once, you activate the daily cleansing mode which activates a timer that beeps every 20 seconds to remind you to move onto the next section of your face. If you press the button a second time the brush takes you to another mode; the Pulse lift toning mode which offers a mini workout for your skin.

I've been using my cleansing brush with a cream based cleanser and its been giving my skin a beautiful deep clean. I like that with this brush you don't have to press the brush too hard and can gently guide it across your skin and the brush does the rest for you; easy skincare at its finest.

Just as I thought; my love affair with Magnitone is sure to continue on, with this new model offering the perfect no fuss solution to brighter skin, even whilst on the move. (each brush comes with a handy travel bag.)

In two beautiful colours; Rose Quartz and Glittery gold, the brush looks amazing as well as being amazing too.

You can pick up your own brush for a new year full of beautiful skin here.

What's your skin secret?

Freya Lingerie & Finding the Perfect Fit

Dedicated to bringing fashionable Lingerie and swimwear that fits beautifully and looks as good as it feels, Freya Lingerie offers a range of beautiful styles up to a K cup.

Whilst recently attending the clothes show, I was lucky enough to have access to the bloggers lounge, where the lovely ladies from Freya were on hand to talk me through the new collections and offer a free fitting.

It's thought that around 80% of us are wearing the wrong size bra and so after a fitting I guess it should've been no surprise that I was wearing the wrong size! It's one of those things us ladies often forget about through being busy and not really wanting to hang around with half your body out whilst a stranger sizes you up, but like many of the things us ladies have to do, its so important! So go and get yourself supported in all the right places.

As I have a larger cup size and a small back, bra shopping is my worst nightmare. I can never find modern, pretty styles in my size and its my most hated kind of shopping. When looking through the Freya collections I couldn't believe how nice and colourful they were, not a nude or black bra in sight.

I cant wait to look at their new collections more next year and maybe even treat myself to a new bikini, in the perfect fit, something I haven't had the pleasure of owning in a long time!

Freya were kind enough to gift me with this beautiful chemise from their Freya fancies collection; the perfect summer nightwear. To discover the world of Freya, you can head to their website or pop into your local stockist and have a bra fitting.

FalseEyelashes Review

Just last month I was a false lash newbie, quaking in my boots at the thought of applying them, but just recently I've been feeling green with envy at the fluttery eyelashes of Instagram paired with a perfect wing, and so I became determined to crack the eyelash technique and get it down to a fine art. When contacted me to ask me if I'd like to try a few pairs I couldn't resist the challenge.

Offering a world of false lashes from every brand you could wish offers a one stop shop for all of your falsie needs!

I opted for one pair of Ardell Demi Wispies as I'd heard so much about them from other bloggers and one pair of heavier lashes from Red Cherry Chakra lashes. Both sets didn't come with adhesive so I'd recommend stocking up on some during your order.

The lashes arrived quickly and I was really pleased with my order. I'll definitely be using again in the future when it's time to stock up again.

The Perfect Treat for tired eyes from Oprex

I don't know about you, but when I've been wearing contacts or glasses on a long day, sometimes my eyes ache. A few weeks ago I spotted an advert for the new Optrex warming eye masks. I was instantly intrigued, so when by chance they contacted me to ask me if I'd like to give some a try, I couldn't say no.

Offering relief from tired eyes and a little bit of me time, these seemed like the perfect solution to my problem. The first mask I tried I used on the night of the Cosmopolitan Influencer awards as a little treat to relax me, which you may have seen in my vlog; the second, I wanted to save it and try it on a really achey eye day so I could put it fully to the test.

When you open the mask it starts to warm up and releases a gentle and soothing steam and due to the nature of the mask completely covering your eyes, it really forces you to take 10 minutes out of a busy day and truly relax; perfect for a digital detox night.

I found the masks to be a great relief and I'll definitely be buying more in the future. You can buy a two pack for £3.99RRP which I don't think is too bad for a little treat and relaxation!

What's your favourite way to relax?

My One True Love

I love makeup. I love how it transforms people, create characters, brightens and mystifies. It's truly magical to me and I just can't get enough.

When I used to do art at school, my teacher always told me I wasn't very good at it. At the time I was devastated, I'd always thought of myself as a creative and I loved my art lessons with all of my being. I threw myself in and often made some wacky and wonderful creations, but because I didn't often sit down and sketch in the traditional sense, I was labelled as not very good. Now I look back and I realise, I just hadn't found my canvas yet.

I often get asked when my passion for makeup started and if I'm honest, I don't really know. If you catch me on a week day or on the casual, I usually wear very little. A dab of foundation, a slick of bronzer and a lip balm pout to finish my look. It started quite slowly, a bit like my passion for blogging. I decided one day it would be fun to try out a few looks and gradually with time it became a full blown passion.

One of my favourite quotes comes from Roald Dahl who said “I began to realize how important it was to be an enthusiast in life.... if you are interested in something, no matter what it is, go at it at full speed ahead. Embrace it with both arms, hug it, love it and above all become passionate about it. Lukewarm is no good" and so I began to follow it. I practice my passion and love every single day.

I work in the day and in the evening I get straight home and head to my makeup bag and brushes. I spend every spare moment watching YouTube videos, reading blogs and on Pinterest finding my new favourite looks, tips and tricks.

This year I set myself challenges and it's paid off. I finally feel like my hard work is getting recognised. This isn't a blog post to blow my own trumpet, as if you know me well, you would know I do anything but.

This is a little message to the girl or boy in their bedroom sat there worrying they are losing their passion. I'm saying to you now, do not give up! Keep building, keep driving, keep creating, keep at it and I promise you in time, you will see the fruits of your labour blossom and that for you, in whichever way it comes, will be the greatest moment of all.

Kiss Salon Acrylic French Nails

For as long as I can remember, I've always loved press on nails, pulling me in with their simplicity and ease of use. Over the years, press ons have become anything but simple with their extravagant and beautiful designs but sometimes, you just can't beat a classic, so when I was contacted by Kiss to see if I'd like to try some of their revolutionary French nails, I couldn't resist.

Party season is almost upon us and nothing says party ready like perfect nails. So when I was getting ready for the Cosmo influencer awards I decided to give these nails a whirl. First thing I noticed was the glue is STRONG get it right first time, because these nails stick super quick!

With extra flexibility for comfort and acrylic strength tips I couldn't believe how much these nails looked like I'd just stepped out of a nail salon after a full set of acrylics.

The nails have been on now for a week and they are still going strong, no chips, no loose nails and a beautiful shape.

I'll definitely be purchasing more Kiss Nails in the future, especially over Christmas to keep me party perfect throughout the festive season and beyond.

Kensington Gardens Hotel

This week I headed to London for the Cosmopolitan blog awards, which if you want a little sneak peek at, you can watch my vlog here.

When planning my trip to London, I needed to find a convenient hotel close to Kensington Palace and something which was in a reasonable price range, which in London can be quite the feat.

I was planning my trip with Abigail, who was also up for an award, so when she said she'd already booked in, I decided to book into the same place too, so we'd have someone to travel to and from the event with.

Just a few minutes walk from both Bayswater and Queensway underground stations the Kensington Gardens Hotel is a stylish 17 bedroom boutique hotel conveniently placed in central London, near Hyde Park.

With beautiful period features, (check out that amazing hallway floor) you could tell each room had been lovingly put together. The bedrooms were cozy, clean and had lovely bathrooms and are perfect for a short stop to experience the sights of London.

The staff were friendly and really helpful and nothing was too much trouble. On trips out you can handily pass over your key into the Phoenix hotel next door, which also hosts a brilliant convenient breakfast, should you feel hungry the next morning.

For a 2 star hotel, Kensington Gardens offered everything I expected and a little bit more and is definitely a hidden gem. If all of this isn't enough to sway you, bloggers, the marble and checkered tile steps and near by pillars offer the most amazing photography backdrops for that perfect outfit shot!

You can find everything you need about this sweet little hotel at

Rimmel London The Only 1 Matte Lipstick

If you follow my blog you will know I absolutely adore lipstick, there is probably very few days in my life I go without it and so when the new Rimmel London The Only 1 Matte collection landed on my doorstep I couldn't wait to give them a whirl.

A high coverage formula with full impact colour and a flawless matte finish in a single stroke, it's easy to see why these lipsticks will become a firm favourite of many.

With 9 new shades to pick from its difficult to pick a favourite, but if you follow me you'll also know I'm a sucker for a red shade and so I couldn't help but fall in love with shade 500 Take The Stage.

I tried on all of the lipsticks below for you (I know it's a tough job but someone has to do it) so that you can find your new perfect shade.

The long lasting lipsticks will be a perfect handbag essential for over the festive period and I can see shades Salute and Trendsetter being huge hits amongst the blogger set and those who love a pinky nude.

If you find your perfect shade be sure to share it on #Liplibrary

Clear your mind with Neal & Wolf

I have always loved Neal & Wolf, after discovering the up and coming brand in a beauty box once upon a time. Treated to their shine spray I couldn't get enough of the relaxing scent that it blew my way every time I swished my hair. My love affair has spanned over two years, and doesn't show any signs of stopping in the near future, so when the lovely people at Neal & Wolf asked me if I'd like to try their latest candle and their guide to relaxation, with life as it was lately, I couldn't think of anything better.

The new candle is from their new Elysian range, with a scent similar to their signature.

On the Neal & Wolf website The Elysian Range is described as "a scent that encapsulates the quality of paradise, excellence so divine it was inspired by the heavens. It epitomises a state of bliss that only Neal & Wolf can provide, so you can feel like a goddess" and to be honest I can't really argue. Whenever I need a real wind down, I always turn to my Neal & Wolf hair goodies and candles and take myself off for a relaxing bath.

If baths aren't really your thing, Neal & Wolf have put together a simple guide to meditation so you too can take some serious me time, so burn that candle, pop on some comfy clothes and get ready to relax.

A mini meditation session - to clear your mind and boost energy levels.

1. Take a minute to prepare the space in which you meditate. Turn down the lights or draw your curtains closed.

2. Next light the Neal & Wolf indulgence scented candle and take a seat where you feel most comfortable.

3. Adopt an upright position and ensure that your back is straight, chest is open and shoulders are back.

4. Take three deep in and out breaths, inhaling the heavenly scent of mandarin and orange blossom to help prevent stress and tension.

5. Place one hand on your chest and one hand on your stomach and continue to take deep breaths. On your next breath in, ensure that you breathe out of your stomach. The hand on your chest needs to remain relatively still. This helps steady the rhythm of the heartbeat and leads the mind into a peaceful meditative state.

6. Keep a light smile on your face, doing so will help boost energy levels. If your mind begins to wander, guide your attention back each time, do so with kindness and gentleness.

7. As you come close to the end of your meditation, don't be in a hurry to open your eyes. Open them slowly and gradually taking time to become aware of yourself and your surroundings.

8. At this stage, our indulgence scented candle will have filled the room with floral aromas of lily, ylang-ylang and orchid... True indulgence!

You can find the full Neal & Wolf range on their website:

Hope you're feeling suitably relaxed.

Skin Care Routine - Philosophy

Finding the right skincare can be a nightmare. Especially when you're looking for something that is easy to use, but leaves you looking glowing all year long. When this Philosophy surprise landed on my doorstep I couldn't have been more excited. Offering three steps to beautiful skin and a selection of their best sellers, I couldn't wait to try out the range.

Purity 3-in-1 Cleanser - £8.50 - £29.50

An award winning daily facial cleanser, formulated to gently cleanse, tone and melt away even the toughest makeup in one single step, this cleanser is the dream. Having used this throughout my She Does Horror challenge I can honestly vouch for this cleanser and see why it is an award winner. It leaves your skin feeling soft and fresh and eliminates makeup build up with ease.

The Microdelivery Resurfacing Peel - £59.50

A two-step at home peel that promises to rejuvenate and resurface skin. Offering a simple and easy method it feels like a luxurious treat. The peel can be used once a week to leave skin feeling extra soft.

Renewed Hope in a Jar - £35.50

Offering a promise to refine texture and pores due to a triple blend of alpha-hydroxy acids which gently exfoliate skin, ultimate all-day hydration – thanks to a combination of 3 hyaluronate asian fruit extracts and a continuous healthy colour and glow due to the triple action illuminators which brighten and re-energize the skin this moisturiser claims to do it all.

Overall the three step program has left my skin feeling super soft. With all my recent makeup antics I expected my skin to be ruined right now, but thanks to Philosophy I think a few skin dramas have been kept at bay. My skin actually feels glowing and I find that my makeup is sitting better than usual. It's dangerous to fall in love with a skin care routine Incase anything ever changes, but I think I may just have fallen for Philosophy.

Top Secret - Scandaleyes Reloaded

As I sat clutching the envelope and the secret parcel, I just I had to accept the mission. I knew I had to go underground to bring you the low down on the new Rimmel London Scandaleyes Reloaded mascara for dangerously bold, lethally full lashes.

The Lowdown

A new innovative formula gives lashes more volume for a clump free lash look. The formula creates an intense black volumising film that rapidly adheres to lashes more quickly for a divinely dark finish and insanely big lashes.

The packaging has been given a contemporary luxe twist with an attention grabbing orange. The bold look is mirrored in the Extreme Black shade with dark packaging. The new max density brush lends itself to super volume with maximum impact so you can forgo the falsies altogether.

With 24 hour lash impact capacity this mascara promises to go the extra mile, whatever the battle at hand.

My thoughts

I love the bold packaging and the fact that this mascara aims to fit into a busy life, no matter what you're up to. Whether you plan to go to the gym, or head out clubbing the mascara is sweat and humidity proof. In the name of science I left the mascara on for a long sweaty night of sleep and found it still was going strong in the morning. I wanted to try the removal with ease, so I put it to the ultimate test - removing the mascara with tissue and some water. It removed itself with a gentle blotting motion which pleased me greatly. The overall feel and look of the mascara is what is expect from a high street mascara and left my lashes feeling volumous and fluttery. My favourite is the Extreme Black shade to give maximum impact, but the other will be great for everyday!

With Halloween just around the corner, give yourself the Scandaleyes Reloaded makeover and get in the undercover spirit. Re-create the look with Rimmel's Scandaleyes Micro Liner to draw the perfect undercover robot look. Smudge proof, tear proof, sweat proof, heat proof and scandal proof, this liner does it all.

OOTD - Off The Shoulder Trend

This weekend I attended the Bloggers Blog Awards. The worst thing about these kind of things is deciding what to wear! You don't want to look over dressed and you don't want to look under dressed either!

My usual look is quite girly and so I wanted something that suited this. I opted for this lovely off the shoulder dress from Everything5Pounds.* Yep that's right, the dress only costs £5! I paired it with a big handbag also from Everything5Pounds and accessorised the look with one of my favourite printed scarves.

The handbag is the perfect size to carry all of your essentials! During the awards I was carrying an umbrella, a camera and a huge bottle of water and they all fitted in with my usual essentials without any overspill.

I had a great time at the event and absolutely loved my outfit. Keep your eyes peeled for a full run down of the event in the next few days.

6 years on - 6 things I've learnt from my Invisible Illness

6 years ago I was diagnosed with Neurocardiogenic Syncope. An invisible and chronic illness that is part of the dysautonomia family which in short term is a general term used to describe the breakdown of the autonomic nervous system. Symptoms are wide ranging from patient to patient and can include problems with the regulation of heart rate, blood pressure, temperature and perspiration. Other symptoms include fatigue, lightheadedness, feeling faint or passing out (syncope) weakness and cognitive impairment. I was first diagnosed at the age of 20 after 10 years of doctors, questions, tests and panic after a series of worrying faints and seizure like activity.

Why am I telling you all of this? Well this week marks Invisible Illness Week, a cause that is close to my heart. The weeks main aim is to raise awareness for invisible illnesses and to remind people that just because you can't see someone is sick it doesn't mean they aren't.

Today I wanted to write a little list of things I've learnt since getting my diagnoses and also raise a little bit of awareness about my condition and others struggling a silent battle every day.

1. This is a different life than you planned, but it doesn't have to change you.

When you are first diagnosed, a lot of things automatically get taken away from you. Things such as driving, exercise, the knowledge that you will definitely have children may all come up for question and this can leave you feeling understandably scared. Since my diagnoses I've started to live in something I call my 'new' normal. So I can't have a shower without the help of a stool or sitting down and I can't stay out till ridiculous hours of the morning like my friends without severely paying for it the next day, but that doesn't mean I have to lose who I am. Try to find new hobbies that you enjoy which fit around your illness and you'll soon realise your diagnosis doesn't own you.

2. Not everyone will understand.

But you don't look sick? You're too young to be sick. "Oh I'm exhausted too." All things I've heard on more than one occasion when I've been talking about my illness or mentioned that I'm feeling unwell. Sadly for a lot of people seeing is believing and unless they can see an arm hanging off its very unlikely that they will always believe the extent of what you're going through. I once had a long chat with my great aunt and she told me that other people don't matter, as long as I know my own limits and I'm taking care of my personal health, what do other people's opinions really matter?

3. People will try and tell you WHY you are sick.

You look tired, are you sick because you're tired? Did you eat enough? Maybe you need to eat? No, I'm just ill! It took me a while to get a few people to understand this, as if people know the cause, they think they can create a solution. The sad thing is with chronic and invisible illnesses is that usually they are life long and whilst they can be managed, they are usually unable to be cured completely. So as annoying as this can be, I've learnt to let these people try and help, it makes them feel better and  like they're doing something positive, even if you still feel rotten afterwards.

4. Learn to live in the moment.

When you don't know if you will wake up feeling well or like you've just been hit by a bus, It's good to learn to live in the moment. Whilst cancelled plans can be frustrating, learn to live spontaneously and make plans in the spur of the moment. Whilst I understand that sometimes medication and equipment might need planning for some people, if you're having a day where you feel well, plan an adventure and appreciate the day.

5. Grow a thick skin, people will say mean things.

Knowingly or unknowingly, people in your life will sometimes make comments which hurt. You can take these comments to heart or you can learn to take them with a pinch of salt. Anytime someone says anything hurtful or a little close to the knuckle now I offer them the line "by all means please take this for one month and then get back to me" and it seems to work. Whilst you shouldn't have to fight your corner, sometimes people need educating, so do your bit for the rest of us and teach them why their comments are hurtful or bad. As for dealing with them yourself, know they often come from a place of miseducation rather than wanting to be hurtful.

6. Take care of yourself.

Don't beat yourself up for those days spent in bed. You aren't being lazy, you are recovering and giving your body the love and attention it needs. Taking care of yourself is not something to be ashamed of. You sit back enjoy that well deserved day in bed! Need a nap when you get back from work? Nap away!!

Do you suffer from an invisible illness? What are your top tips?

Customising on a Budget with Everything5Pounds

If you follow me on Twitter, you will know a few weeks ago that I came across an image on Pinterest, one that I fell in love with. It featured a denim jacket to die for, with the words "don't follow me, I'm lost too." Never had a piece of clothing spoken to me more, but upon researching, I just couldn't justify the price. I decided that customising would be the only way, and that is where Everything5Pounds stepped in.

Offering good quality products at a fraction of the price Everything5Pounds offers a wide range of clothing and accessories for just that, £5! Whilst some of the pieces on the website won't be to everyone's taste, if you're willing to have a little hunt, some true gems can be found.

Prior to this collaboration, I myself have placed a few orders and have been really happy with what I have received.

This whole outfit is fantastic quality and is the perfect way to get in on the current double denim trend. I customised the jacket for a few pounds by searching for iron on patches and letters online, with the jacket overall working out at a cost of about £10. Complete bargain right?

I accessorised this look with some ripped jeans, (which it should be noted fit amazingly and a lot better than some of the more expensive jeans I've owned,) some sassy leopard print heels and a basic white vest. The whole outfit would add up to a bargain price of £20, which is basically even cheaper than a night on the town!

Everything5Pounds update their website daily with the latest fashion so that you can keep up to date with the latest trends at a fraction of the price.

The Social Butterfly

For as long as I can remember, I have never really fitted "in" wherever in may be. I have always struggled to fit into large group of girls, I often find them intimidating or find that they at times don't get my dry, largely male friend driven wit.

At school I spent most of my life being bullied and ridiculed for not having a particular group that I belonged to. Sure I had friends, in fact some of those close friends I even have now, but I'm not one of these girls that have a particular "clique" that they have had for years. My friendship groups are fluid and have grown and changed with my life.

The problem with being a "social butterfly" is that it's very hard to make people stick. When you flit in and out of groups, you're never really the first person on people's mind. This can often leave those of us with multiple groups of friends feeling forgotten or at the wayside when plans are made. When I was younger, this used to bother me quite a lot. I always wondered why I couldn't be the girl in the big friendship group with a solid group of friends since the year dot.

As I've grown older I've come to realise that the saying about your best friends being on one hand is really true and it's really important. It doesn't really matter if they are all in the same group, because it offers you change and a variety of personalities.

I have different friends that I know I can go to for different life problems and joys. Friends that I know I can share deep secrets with and have tremendous laughs with. I have friends that I know would hit it off if they met and I have friends that I worry would cause a combustion if they ever stepped within a few feet of each other.

The beauty of friendship is that it is diverse and changing as life evolves around us and as I grow older I couldn't be happier to flutter my wings around the many social circles that life has to offer.

Until Next Time
