The makeup brushes you need in your life

My collection of makeup brushes is getting slightly out of hand, I think I'm currently hitting 60 and there's no stopping me now. I first came across the brand Girl Meets Brush when my sister introduced me to them through her wedding makeup artist Lynne Mills. After me and Lynne got talking she kindly offered to send me one of their starter collections to review, over the next few months I used the brushes none stop for every makeup look under the sun and me and Lynne emailed back and forth about our love of makeup and me mostly talking about the love of her brushes.

If you've read my blog before, you'll have seen my previous post with a review of the brushes. Since then Lynne has kindly sent me the full 12 piece kit, makeup bag and beauty blender to give them a whirl and they haven't left my side since.

The kit has every type of brush a makeup artist or makeup lover could need and so I'm here to give you a break down of the most perfect brushes I've ever used to date.

The Foundation Brush has flat & dense hairs, but a soft finish which allows a smooth application to the foundation.

The Concealer Brush has a small graduation tip to allow more precision when covering blemishes & applying product.

The Blending/Contour Brush has an angled shaped head, the fibres are dense but have soft bristles, it is used to buff & blend products together, great for blending blusher, bronzer & highlighter.

The Contour & Blusher Brush is made of soft but dense fibres that are rounded & tapered at the end, so it can apply & blend product to the shape of your cheekbones.

The Powder Brush is soft & most dense texture wise, which allows it to pick up & evenly distribute loose or pressed powder to the face in order to set make-up.

The EyeShadow Shader Brush is soft & flat with fine fibres to shade the eyelid with your base colour, it is round & tapered so it can build intense colour or really pack on pigment to the eyelid.

The Eyeshadow Blending Brush is a pointed but soft bristled brush which will soften & blend out the eyeshadow in the socket line & out to the outer edges of the eye.

The Highlighter Blending Brush a softly packed bristled brush, which is slightly angled to blend highlighter under the brow bone.

The Pencil Brush has close compacted but soft fibres to allow precision when applying eyeshadow to the socket line & the outer edges of the eye.

The Angled Eyeliner Brush has an angled sharp edge with soft fibres, which allows a perfect line. The brush is ideal for using gel/cream liner or eyeshadow to create the desired look at the lash lines.

The Eyeliner Brush has a very fine tipped point that gives precision for applying liquid, gel or cream eyeliner to the top lash line.

The Lip Brush has a flat but tipped edge to give excellent control along the lip line when applying lipstick.

For the face:

Top pick - The stand out brush here is definitely the blending/contour brush. It makes chiselling those cheekbones an absolute breeze.

Time to blend:

Top pick -  The eyeshadow shader brush is my top brush of 2016. Big claim I know, but if you can only afford to buy one of these brushes, please make it this one! It makes eyeshadow blending an absolute breeze and will have you feeling like a pro in no time.

The finer details:

Top Pick - The liner brush is by far the easiest detail brush I have ever used. It's making my eyeliner wings an absolute doddle and I imagine it will be a dream for those who love intricate details like lip art.

How to dress for a heatwave

During the sunny months it's difficult to know how to dress. When you are having to cater for the warm weather but still be office appropriate, sometimes something as simple as getting dressed in the morning becomes a struggle.

Whenever it's hot I tend to look towards the shirt dress. This one is from Zara and is made from super light airy fabric which is perfect for a summers day.

For those really hot days, opt for similar styles, but go for a sleeveless shirt dress instead, in floaty or structured fabrics.

Keep things appropriate with a sling back mule or shoe boot, to give your feet a little bit of air whilst still being office friendly and be sure to treat your feet to a much needed pedicure.

What's your heatwave office essential?

L'oreal Pure Clay Detox Mask - First Look

Looking for a route to beautiful skin? This week I treated myself to the new L'oreal Pure Clay Detox Mask after succumbing to the numerous adverts I'd seen everywhere as of late! (I know, I know, I am a marketers dream.)

With all of my recent makeup looks, the condition of my skin has taken a nose dive and so I've decided it's in need of some TLC.

With three different options to choose from, whatever your skin complaint, L'oreals new range has something for you. From a Purity Mask to deeply purify and mattify, a Glow Mask to brighten and exfoliate and the Detox Mask to cleanse and clarify, L'oreal have every dilemma covered.

I opted for the Pure Clay Detox Mask which features a powerful blend of three clays and charcoal.

The breakdown:
- Koalin is a highly effective natural clay, known to absorb impurities and excess sebum.
- Montmorillonite is rich in minerals, a clay recognised for helping people eliminate imperfections.
- Ghassoul is a pure clay highly concentrated in minerals renowned for helping clarify the complexion.

What the mask promises:
Immediately: Skin is purer and clearer
Use for one week: Skin feels fresher and more luminous
Long term use: Skin can breathe and is visibly transformed

My verdict:
I've only used the mask a few times so far, but I do have to say I was immediately impressed. The smell of the mask is beautiful, it reminds me of a day in the spa and so it left me feeling instantly relaxed. I popped it on for a bath and cleaned it off after the ten minutes required. When I washed it off my skin felt noticeably softer, smoother and looked like it had a beautiful glow.

A few days on since using the mask my skin is still super soft and I can't wait for the next one. I'll try to keep this post updated with how I'm getting on with the mask over time!

"Balmain" on a budget at Boohoo

I absolutely adore the Balmain Classic blazer, but there is no way I can ever justify the £1000+ price tag. So what do you do when you're a fashionista who just HAS to have the designer item, but you don't possess the bank balance? You find a dupe of course!

Luckily enough, mine came from beautiful blogger Lydia Elise Millen, she is lucky enough to own the real deal, but she offered purse friendly alternatives for every budget.

Whilst this blazer isn't exactly the same cut, it had a laid back tailored feel and nips in at all the right places. It's got classic gold buttons and is double breasted.

I'll be wearing mine with white shirts and laid back t-shirts and be pairing it with jeans and denim shorts on summery days. Not bad pay per wear for a jacket that will set you back just £25!

Jacket: Boohoo @Asos
White Pin Collar Shirt: Hawkins & Shepherd
Jeans: New Look
Clutch: River Island
Boots: Zara

Tropical Delight

If you're a regular here at What She Did, you'll have noticed something is a little different! For the past three years I've tried to keep updating my blog theme to get with the times and so as a third birthday treat to the blog, I only felt it was fair to give it a makeover courtesy of Pipdig!

Over the next few weeks, keep checking back for exciting collaborations, reviews, competitions and of course lots of makeup looks.

Today we're getting tropical. Inspired by the depths of the ocean and fish in the barrier reef, meet my latest series pairing clean, fresh skin with bright mattes and unusual glistening textures.

Keep your eyes peeled over the next couple of weeks for more looks inspired by nature.

Not many people know this, but I wear contacts daily, and in the evenings and on laid back days, I switch it up into my glasses.

In recent weeks I'd been perusing the Internet and finding myself drawn to fashion frames, so when contacted me and asked me if I'd like to review a pair of their frames, I was excited to browse their full collection.

The Glasses Shop offers eyeglasses online  varying from stylish fashion frames to prescription sunglasses. With a wide range of styles and designs to choose from, whatever you need from your frames, you're bound to find them here.

I opted for these stylish Clifford Wayfarer - Tortoise frames, which I have fallen in love with; sturdy and versatile, these glasses are slightly bigger and bolder than my usual glasses of choice, but I love how they go with most outfits and instantly add an edge or smarten things up.

The delivery was fast and efficient and I even had the option to add prescription lenses with the right information. As I didn't have that to hand, I opted to go for fashion lenses and decided that these frames will be handy for days I'm wearing my contacts and fancy a different look.

The kind people at are offering my lovely readers 50% off glasses and sunglasses with the code GSHOT50

Whatever your plans this summer, with stylish frames at affordable prices glasses shop is sure to have the perfect choice for you.

Wearing Fashion Whites

It's been quite a while since I've done any fashion related posts due to getting bored of the same old white background every time.

Recently I treated myself to a few new pieces and so like any true blogger I wanted to throw together some outfits for style inspiration.

At the moment I'm loving all things white cotton. There's something about crisp white cotton when it comes to the summer months that is so appealing. It's cooling, it looks smart and it's really versatile.

I love the playsuit in this look because it's laid back and gives the idea of a smock dress. I've never worn anything more comfortable in my life!

My next new favourite thing are my boots, snatched up in the Zara sale I can tell I will be getting hell of a lot of use out of these beauties!

Playsuit: Zara
Boots: Zara
Necklace: Boohoo
Bangles: Links of London
Bag: Peacocks
